West Virginia Summer Break
Last week, we took a much-needed break - from the noise, the schedules, the phones, and the constant pull of technology - and slipped away to West Virginia.
We started the week in Morgantown before heading down to Kenna to spend some time with the crew at Trophy Whitetail Hunts at Goldtown, and then continued on to White Sulphur Springs.
A last-minute change in where we were staying ended up being one of those unexpected turns that makes a trip even better. We found ourselves in a little cabin tucked away in Harts Run, where you literally had to cross a creek to get there. There was a fire pit, a hot tub, quiet mornings, and the kind of peace that you don’t realize you need until you’re finally in it.
But the best part of the trip wasn’t the cabin or the scenery. It was family.
I got to see family I hadn’t seen in decades, and Cameron got to experience so many of the things my mom and dad used to take me to do when I was a kid. Watching him explore the same places, play in the same creeks, and make his own memories in the mountains was incredibly special.
There was something really beautiful about bringing a little piece of my childhood back to life through him.
It was a week of family, mountains, creeks, laughter, campfires, and slowing down enough to actually be present.
Sometimes you don’t need a big adventure. You just need to unplug, cross a creek, sit around a fire, and remember what - and who - really matters.
West Virginia, you were exactly what we needed.
