We are grateful to have been afforded the ability to come home so quickly. Cameron has proven to be very strong. He loves being home with his two kittens - George and Harry (who are both female). He loves being able to play in his playroom again with all of his toys and he loves being able to be free of tubes and wires.
We've had lots of family visitors. Everyone seems to share the same sentiment - they are amazed at how well he is doing considering what he had done. He wanted to make pizzas his first day home. My parents and my nephew came over and we all made different types of pizza. He loved that it was HIS and he was a "chef".
We had started opening his packages and cards in the hospital. Every card he opens he asks the name and says that they are his friends. We've gotten cards from neighbors, friends throughout the US and as far away as England, Germany and Australia. He loves that so many people are cheering for him and think that he is strong and brave.
He has slowly come to terms with his scar - which we refer to as his "schwoop". He actually shows it off to friends who visit. They share with him their schwoop's from all types of surgeries.
We are in the process of setting up and getting into the swing of follow up appointments. We have our first post-op meeting with Cameron's local pediatrician this Friday. This Monday we have to go back to Children's National to meet with the team there. From my conversations with them we will be removing the stitches from the drain tube, doing another round of bloodwork, another EKG, another ECHO and just a general checkup of the incision. A few weeks after that we will start going to Children's satellite office in Annapolis (which is much easier to get to for us) for follow-ups with the CN team. Regardless of where we have to go or who we have to see, Cam will always have his mama and all of his friends rooting for him.
