Today was an early start. We had to be at the hospital at 8am for pre-op testing. It’s been a while since I’ve navigated Washington, D.C. so we gave ourselves time to get there. There is a small coffee shop so we grabbed muffins and coffee and waited for our covid test.
Cam wasn't too sure about it but handled it like a champ.
We then headed for an EKG and met with some cardiologists who gave me a very real picture of what to expect post operation.
we then went to met with an Anesthesiologist who asked lots of questions and answered lots of questions. Then it was off to x-ray and blood draw. The blood draw was no fun and as you can imagine trying to get blood out of the arm of a toddler was painful. He enjoyed the x-ray. The x-ray technician let him see the pictures after it was done on the screen. We counted his ribs and his spine vertebrae‘s, we looked at his heart and his lungs and even saw poop inside of his intestines. He got a good laugh out of that one. We were not able to meet with our surgeon as he was still in surgery and it was nearing 1 PM and no one had had lunch. I’m expecting a phone call this evening from him.
Cams surgery is scheduled for 8:30am. We have a 7:30am arrival and the entire procedure from when he leaves me at 8:30 will be about 6 hours. Children’s national has an incredible text message system. There is an app where one parent can sync with a cardiology team. The nurses will send text updates as to what stage of the surgery they are in. So I get a real time update of where they are. I’ll share those updates tomorrow as we go. Thank you all for the love and support♥️
