In Memory of Pop

We wanted to share an update to celebrate the life of Cameron's grandfather, who passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, at 73 years old.

Born in January 1953, he graduated from the University of Maryland and devoted more than 30 years to a career in food safety.

He was a lifelong artist with a deep love for the natural world. As a teenager, he began carving his own duck decoys for use on the Chesapeake Bay, spending countless hours observing waterfowl and studying their calm temperament and fluid movement. Rather than following typical decoy styles, he found his own unique, natural forms inspired by the birds themselves.

He lovingly shared his passion for woodworking and waterfowl carving with his children as they grew up, spending many days in his workshop teaching them to shape wood, study a bird's features, and appreciate the art hidden within the grain. Though he hadn't been able to compete in recent years, he always cherished returning as a volunteer to the wildfowl carving community that meant so much to him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, his children, his grandsons, including Cameron, his siblings, and a wide circle of extended family and cherished friends.

He left us with the words he lived by: "Everyday is a good day. Some are just better than others." May we carry that reminder forward in his honor.
