One of our most favorite things to do is go to Virginia and go fossil hunting at one our top secret sports. We usually find a handful of small, fossilized shells. But this trip TOPPED the list! The weather was not optimal - It was raining and not cold but a tad chilly when we got soaked through. Within the first ten minutes, Cameron found a 4" megalodon tooth. We couldn't believe our luck; this was a once in a lifetime find! Shortly after that, his cousin Bobby, found a tennis ball sized Ecphora shell. And soon after that one by one we each found a full intact shell. It was amazing and we had such a blast even though we were soaked to the bone!
"Ecphora gardnerae is a species of extinct predatory ocenebrinid murex gastropod. Shells of E. gardnerae are found in Miocene-aged marine strata of Maryland and Virginia. This species of large carnivorous sea snail lived during the Miocene epoch and became extinct more than five million years ago."
The next day we took the ferry over to Historic Jamestown and adventured around - filling out minds with history and marveling at the beauty of the James River
